Hello everyone!
I got to celebrate my birthday in Jingdezhen! I had a really nice day. I was surprised with 2 birthday cakes!! Prue and Sarah went to the great trouble of making a chocolate mud cake! Not easy to do in Jingdezhen!!!! And everyone agreed it was the best cake they have tried in China! :) They light it up with fire crackers (improvised candles/sparklers). Basically smoke and flames. It was very sweet of them.
We have been speaking with a exhibition coordinator that we met in a tea house. Tonight we had another meeting with him and the four of us (from Australia) will be included in a porcelain jewellery exhibition in the Jingdezhen International Ceramic Fair. We are feeling very excited, as it is such a good opportunity. I'm slightly stressed, because the materials here are so different, and the opening is on the 17th October. But we can devote alot of time to it. Also I don't normally exhibit jewellery, but it will be good to step outside the comfortable and try something new. We will also be published in a book about porcelain jewellery, and maybe a book on sculpture if we like. I'm not sure what the book on sculpture is about. The man organising it said it was something to do with the university. So it is all happening here!!!!!! :)
We are all settling in. The artists here are fantastic and everyone is getting along. We have some really helpful staff that look after us. I can't believe it has been just over 2 weeks. I seems like a lot longer. Probably because we have seen so much.
We have been a bit worried about the milk products. We have been drinking the brands that have been recalled, and also the yoghurts. But we haven't had a lot. We are all giving up dairy completely. Prue and Sarah are going to drink Soy Milk. We haven't heard a lot about it. Just what we can find on the internet.
Keep me updated with all the news from Australia.
Love, Erin
